Twin Bridge Inspections Cause Major Traffic Backup

Northbound traffic on Hghway 41 backed up today for miles as engineers inspect the twin bridges. It's the start of big headaches for drivers.

At one point, traffic was backed up to the Zon exit, well past the cloverleaf. Today, just one lane was open on the northbound side of the twin bridges.

Even though these inspections of the twin bridges are a frequent occurrence, they still cause significant back ups. Traffic was often at a standstill.

We're told these inspections could take up to two weeks. And there's not much drivers can do other than deal with it.

"There's the loss of production, money and waste of fuel," said Dave Stone. "If they could time it out later in the evening after peak traffic hours, that would be beneficial. Looks pretty heavy duty down there."

Officials say the lane closures will take place each day around 9 a.m. The work is expected to wrap up by 3:30 p.m. each day. Some closures on the weekends might be necessary as well.
