Twin Calves Born at Vanderburgh Co. Fair

People attending the Vanderburgh County Fair today received a bonus attraction.

A cow gave birth to twin calves today. The new mom had her two calves in the stable, both of them are girls.

More than 100 people gathered around to watch the miracle of birth. The owners say it was a great experience for the spectators.

"The second little calf was actually a challenge," said Todd Riggs. "She was being born upside down. So, there was a whole lot of pushing and pulling and work that had to be done. And a lot of people got to experience that. It actually wasn't a normal birth of a calf, not that it was two, but because the second one was coming in an odd way."

It's rare for a cow to give birth to more than one calf. But Riggs says his father anticipated there would be two.
