USI broke ground today on a new $5.75 million conference center. The facility will be built facing the back of the Liberal Arts Building across Reflection Lake.
The meeting space was also named the Griffin Center in honor of long-time USI supporter Bob Griffin and his family. School officials say the project was only made possible because of the Griffin's $5 million gift.
The man himself says the center will help the university become even greater than it already is now.
"We need to invest in education in this community," said Griffin, "and USI has been a major contributor to the intellectual horsepower of this community."
Griffin Center will feature a meeting room capable of holding around 150 people and a large canopy for outdoor gatherings. School officials expect to done with construction late next year.
