Deputies tell us a car was driving south when it went across the center line, hitting a pickup truck head on. Both drivers were taken to St. Mary's with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
Darmstadt Rd. was shut down for more than an hour as crews worked to clean up the wreckage.
Sheriff Dave Wedding says this has been a particularly bad week for serious wrecks in the county. It's the fourth since Friday. Two people died in separate accidents, adding to a grim reality the county now faces.
"Within the past four weeks, we've had four separate crashes that resulted in four deaths," said Sheriff Wedding. "And that's alarming for us. We don't like to see those types of numbers in our community. Any time you lose a life, it's tragic. And when you lose four in four weeks, that really troubles us."
There have been eight accident related deaths this year in Vanderburgh County. The county averages around 13 to 15 each year. But last year, there were more than 20.
