Officials Cleaning Up Storm Damage Cemeteries for Memorial Day

- Many are expected to go to cemeteries across the Tri-State to pay their respects this Memorial Day. But some Evansville cemeteries are still working to get their grounds ready.

City officials say they're still removing downed trees at the Oak Hill Cemetery. A dozen were brought down during the May 9, macroburst.

None of the trees affected areas where Memorial Day weekend ceremonies are scheduled to happen.

"There's a lot of folks," said Evansville Cemetery Superintendent Chris Cooke. "This might be their only opportunity to come out to one of our facilities this year. So, we have to be immaculate. We have to be the best we can be. This is a prime time weekend for us. All hands on deck. May 9, didn't make that easier."

Some older tombstones were damaged from the storm. But officials say they were going to be fixed later this Summer anyway.
