Owensboro Municipal Utilities officials are taking another shot at a proposed water rate increase.

A utility spokeswoman says they haven't decided how big it'll be, but it could be smaller than the last proposed one.

The initial proposal would have raised water bills by about 26 percent over two years. City commissioners unanimously rejected that proposal last month.

"We try to keep those as minimal as we can," said Sonya Dixon of OMU. "We try to mitigate any increase in any way that we can. I think, in general, hopefully, our customers understand that just as your prices are going up, prices are going up for the production of water."

Officials say they'll introduce their new plan to the city utility commission in the coming weeks.
