Parts of I-69 Remain Slick

- As winter weather rolls through, the brand new stretch of I-69 continues to cause problems that are becoming all too familiar with those who travel it.

Interstate lanes in the Petersburg, Ind. area, stretching north into Daviess County are still caked with layers of snow and ice. Indiana State Police says this area is a problem every time there's a winter weather event.

INDOT suggests the northern section of I-69 is particularly troublesome because it's in a very rural area. There are few tree lines to block the road from the harsh winter winds. Officials believe it's a combination of the road's environment and its elevation that make the area prone to slick spots.

"It's just consistently the northbound lanes coming out of Evansville seem to have pile-ups pretty well every time that there's bad weather," said Janice Durcholz, who travels I-69 five days a week to and from Evansville. She says the road gets increasingly worse as she travels north.

INDOT says they'll continue to have road crews working around the clock until the pavement is completely dry. In the meantime, they're advising drivers to avoid any unnecessary travel.
