Petition to Keep LST 325 Collects Signatures

A petition to keep the LST 325 in Evansville is turned in to the ship's board of directors.

We're told it collected about 3,000 signatures the petition was started by Earl Pfettscher a self-proclaimed history buff.

For weeks, residents have been stopping by Eastland Mall and adding their name to the list.

Signatures were also collected at businesses around town and online.

Chris Donahue says, "Truthfully last September when the ship came back from its annual trip when there were hundres of people lined on the shore. Waving flags and all that good stuff, that's when the board sat up and took notice. And eveything that has been transpiring since then and then this, so it all comes collectively together and has an imact on the board, I can tell you that."

The ship's contract with Evansville expires next year.
City leaders in Peoria have been working on a plan to lure the LST.

They're expected to meet Tuesday night to vote on a contract to offer the ship's board members who say they will make a decision next month.
