Today was full of final adjustments as each player prepares to tee it up at Victoria National as the United Leasing Championship gets underway on Thursday. As Eyewitness News found out, there's a special group of people that helps the players make those adjustments.

Typically, he's not the guy you see on TV but you'll often see what he helps them do. The 156 players at the United Leasing Championship hope to stay through the weekend but Bill Hughes, a company representative from Titleist, is on his way out.

"I show up on Sunday night and get to work early Monday," Hughes said. "I work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and then fly out. We're here to make sure the players are ready to go on Thursday morning when they tee it up and they're 100 percent."

Every swing is unique and every course is different. Every shot, situation and scenario is no similar to the one before.

"Some players are tweakers and they like to change things. It's a habit they get into," Hughes said. "Some guys you have to make them change their grips. They get worn out. That's just the different personalities with the players."

Diagnosing the final adjustments draws some players to the company's mobile Doppler radar that tracks metrics like launch angle, ball spin and a projected distance. When making the final adjustments, Hughes goes back to Titleist's mobile workshop. It's a huge truck with all the tools of the trade. Whether it's building a set from the ground up or an adjustment of one degree, these company reps can and will do it all for the players that sport the Titleist brand. You may not ever see them on TV but that doesn't make their jobs any less rewarding.

"I almost feel like a high school teacher or a college teacher as they move up to go out in the real world, the professional life," Hughes said. "I take a lot of pride in watching the guys playing on this tour going on to play well on the PGA tour."
