Rain Delays Annual Parkinson's Smokeout

- The month of April not only kicks off Autism awareness, but also serves as Parkinson's Awareness Month.

Today was supposed to start the second Annual Parkinson's Smoke-Out, but the rain put a stop to those plans. Instead, the event will start tomorrow and run through Saturday at Tropicana Evansville.

There will be a 66 team sanctioned barbecue competition. In addition to food and local businesses, you can enjoy live blues music.

Organizer Bob Morphew says he was inspired to organize the smoke out in honor of his friend, who lives with young onset Parkinson's disease.

"I wanted to do something to help out with that community," said Morphew, "because no one knows the true effects of it unless you're family member or friend. And the public doesn't really understand the difficulties someone with Parkinson's go through. So, I wanted to raise awareness, and I wanted to raise money to help eradicate the disease."

All proceeds will benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Morphew hopes the three day event will raise more than $10,000.
