Senate Committee Passes Indiana Gay Marriage Bill

- An Indiana Senate committee sends the state's proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage to the full Senate.

The Indiana Senate Rules Committee voted 8-4 today. The version of the bill the committee passed is the same version the House passed a couple of weeks ago. The changes would still prohibit gay marriage but leave the door open for civil unions.

If the Senate passes the modified version of the bill, it will not go to voters in the November election. That's because it has to pass two separate general assemblies before it goes to the voters.
