Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams reflects on his 20 years with the department and looks forward to the future in the private sector.

Williams announced his resignation from the department earlier in the week. He will be working as the director of security for Old National Bank. He says he will be responsible for the physical security of the buildings among other things.

The resignation comes more than six months before the end of his term. Williams says it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

"This has come along," said Williams. "And to make sure there is some continuity for my family, it seemed like it was a wise decision to do now. Now if there was a lot of turmoil going on a lot of things like that, I may have to think differently. But I feel the sheriff's office ship is sailing fairly smoothly right now."

Williams says he doesn't have any political aspirations at this time but isn't ruling it out. His last day with the sheriff's department is May 23. The Democratic Party will now have to name a successor.
