A new program is born out of an unfortunate situation at the Evansville Rescue Mission.

Last week, three bicycles were stolen off the bike rack behind the building.

By reaching out to the community for donations the Evansville Rescue Mission was able to replace the stolen bikes and launch a new program Cycles for Hope.

Fourteen new bikes are now available for residents to use.

Evansville Rescue Mission President Tracy Gorman says residents can use the bikes for transportation or recreation.

"It blesses our heart because as I said we knew how devastated the guys were that lost their bikes. To see the community rally around them and rally around us makes all the difference in the world."

Gorman says the rescue mission will be installing lights and night vision cameras where the bikes will be stored.

They will also be using stronger locks and chains.
