Central High School students practice for an upcoming concert. A concert their parents might know more about than the students do. "It's definitely different, but it's fun." Brenna Dunville is a senior flute player. When she heard she would be playing alongside a Beatles cover band she didn't know what to think. "It's very different. The kind of music that me and my friends listen to like rap and stuff on Hot 96 and this is more stuff that's on the older channels."
Some would take that as blasphemy. For those who don't know The Beatles invaded America 50 years ago. Shaggy hair was the look and Rock n' Roll was the sound. The EVSC Friends and Alumni Association is putting on a concert with Grammy nominated Beatles cover band the Liverpool Legends. "Although they invaded 50 years ago right now I think that their music will always live on and had lived on for 50 years," said President of The EVSC Friends and Alumni Association Ben Shoulders.
Members of Liverpool Legends were hand picked by George Harrison's sister Louise Harrison. Creating a unique link to the original group. "If you close your eyes and you listen to Liverpool Legends you would think that Ringo, John, Paul, and George would be up there. That's how good this group is," said Shoulders. But if Ringo, John, Paul, and George were in fact on the stage, would anyone in Central band know it? "I've listened to them once on a 12 hour car ride," said Dunville. Maybe, maybe not. Either way it's a chance for an older generation to enjoy music that's familiar and a younger generation to learn where the music of today originated. "Ummm...at first I was kind of iffy about it, but now that we're playing it, it's kind of fun," said Dunville.
The concert is March 15th at Central High School. Tickets can be purchased on the EVSC's website or at Central High School for $25 or for $30 at the door.
