Kentucky Transportation workers are installing new ways of keeping water off Tri-State roads. Pre-fabricated aluminum culverts are being put up in Daviess County and Henderson County.

This type of culvert has been in experimental use for several years. One of the first was put in near Bremen in Muhlenberg County two years ago. Officials say it allows for shorter road closures.

"Instead of having maybe a one or two month closure to build a from scratch, concrete structure," said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Public Information Officer Keith Todd, "you can do these maybe in a week or two. It reduces the amount of time a road is closed."

Engineers say the state will save $300,000 in construction costs.
