Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen now officially owns the recipes that made its food so popular.
The company paid 43 million dollars to the family of the fried chicken chain's flamboyant late founder Al Copeland.
Copeland sold his New Orleans based operation back in 2001, but retained the recipes that he had created back in the 1970's.
Since then, a company he owned has been the sole supplier of restaurant ingredients.
After Copeland's death in 2008, Popeyes has paid an estimated 3 million dollar annual royalty to the family.
Popeyes has more than 2200 restaurant locations around the world.
