U.S. Attorney's Office Cracking Down on Public Corruption

- After four recent high-profile cases across Indiana, the U.S. Attorney's Office along with the FBI say they have redoubled their efforts in cracking down on public corruption.

Earlier this year, the FBI created a Public Corruption and Civil Rights Squad that solely investigates these kinds of cases. The U.S. Attorney's Office says it has also devoted more resources to investigating public corruption.

"If you possess the public's trust," said U.S. Attorney Joseph Hogsett, "and if you in whatever way or for whatever reason violate the public's trust, we are committed to holding you accountable."

While Hogsett did not announce any public corruption investigations going on in our area, he did make reference to the case against former Evansville Redevelopment Commissioner Jay Carter. He's scheduled for trial on money laundering charges later this year.
