An arrest in western Kentucky following an undercover internet sting operation. The investigation is centered on alleged crimes against children. Investigators say the man arrested today in Madisonville drove from Woodford County, Kentucky to meet up with what he thought was a teenage girl.

It's a long drive from Woodford County to Madisonville.

"It's probably a 200 mile trip he travelled," says Hopkins Co. Attorney Todd P'Pool.

Troopers say Onofre Gallardo, 30, of Versailles made that trip all the way to a Bailey Drive house.

"The suspect thought he was talking to a 14 year old girl when in fact he was talking to law enforcement," says P'Pool.

Gallardo was arrested when he arrived, now charged with an offense related to child exploitation. P'Pool says Gallardo started talking with troopers online earlier this month. They were posing as a teenager for the investigation. They say he allegedly tried to solicit explicit photos.

"It's about keeping our families safe, our children safe because the internet opens the door for these types of cases to occur," P'Pool adds.

He says cases, like Gallardo's, should make parents aware of what their kids are doing online.

"Cyber safety is something that we take very seriously," P'Pool adds. "I can't stress to parents enough that you know the sort of activities taking place on your home computer with your children."

As Gallardo makes the long trip to jail, investigators say this case should make the community and the internet safer.
