You can take away buildings, but not memories.
"I'm a big Tanya Tucker fan myself and I remember one of her shows, I had a seat front row and center," said Owensboro Public Works Director.
But at the old Showroom Lounge site, they're working on a new downtown addition that could bring new memories. It's called The Pier, an observation deck that can be used for the same events the lounge used to hold.
"A wedding reception, or a cocktail gathering at the convention center," Shelton adds.
Work started back up a few weeks ago. Shelton says the one and a half million dollar project will tie in with other attractions along the city's River Walk.
"It offers a very unique look at the river," he says. "It's located on the bend of the river. You can see all the amenities upstream. The River Walk, Smothers Park."
The Pier won't be another Showroom Lounge, but Shelton says it will have the same old views of the river and bring new memories.
"You'll be able to go out there and the views you see will be the same views," says Shelton. "It's really a touch of this nostalgia."
He adds The Pier should be ready by this fall, but there are factors, including potential rises in Ohio River water levels, that could effect the opening.
