Bruce Pearl Hired as Auburn Head Coach

Former USI and Tennessee head coach Bruce Pearl has accepted the head coaching job at Auburn University.  Pearl won a national championship as a Screaming Eagle in 1994-95, compiling a record of 231-46 while in Evansville.  Pearl moved on to coach five years at Milwaukee in the Horizon League, before taking the University of Tennessee to the NCAA tournament six consecutive years.
Pearl's tenure with Tennessee ended amid an NCAA investigation involving recruiting violations.  Pearl remains under a three-year show-cause penalty, set to expire August 23, 2014. Until that time, however, Pearl will be limited in how he can recruit prospective student athletes. His staff will not be prevented from evaluating talent throughout the summer.
