Colts GM 'disappointed, 'surprised' after McDaniels withdraws as head coach

On Tuesday, Josh McDaniels withdrew from an agreement to become the Indianapolis Colts head coach to remain with the New England Patriots.

On Wednesday, Colts general manager Chris Ballard met with reporters.

According to Ballard, he got a call Tuesday evening that McDaniels had changed his mind and was going in a different direction.

Ballard said the team was 'disappointed' and 'surprised.'

Several assistants were already hired onto the Colts staff by McDaniels.

Those assistants, Ballard said, will remain with the Colts.

Ballard praised former Cowboys linebackers coach Matt Eberflus, who will become the Colts defensive coordinator, along with defensive line coach Mike Phair and offensive line aide Dave DeGuglielmo.
