Evansville City Golf Tournament's Elder Statesman
There is definitely one familar face in this year's tournament. In fact, He has been playing in the City Tournament for over five decades.
It doesn't sound like the swing of a 71 year old man. But it is. Saturday at Helfrich Hills in Evansville Steve Pritchett wrapped up the first round of his 55th City Golf Tournament. An amazing streak for a man his age.
"It means a lot to me," says Pritchett. "But it isn't like it used to be then. When I think I could be competitive. It was a lot tougher then."
"Steve's incredible," says caddy and longtime friend Keith Bagby. "He's an inspiration to all of us."
The question everybody asks senior golfers, can he shoot his age?
"I shot it four times last week," says Pritchett, who shot 82 on Saturday. "But, uh, I didn't shoot it today. I'd have to be another 11 years older."
Just how many more years can pritchett keep his streak alive? He says he hopes to make it to 60 straight tournaments.
