When Matthew Schadler first began running track as a freshman, he never imagined he would be competing at a national level. Over the weekend, he didn't just compete at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, but was able to place second in the mile.
Schadler's time of four minutes and 13 seconds put him about a second shy of the leader and set a new personal record.
The Memorial senior says he hopes to get back to nationals again next season with an even quicker time, as well as qualify in the cross country nationals later this year.
Schadler hopes to continue his running career when he graduates next year but is undecided where he will attend.
