Head coach Rod Drake has the Owensboro Red Devils back in the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen. The young, battle-tested team is searching for the school's fourth state title. Its first since 1980.
Owensboro's first Sweet Sixteen berth since 2008 comes at the heels of an outstanding 21-10 season. It's also a reminder one of the more storied programs in the state is back ... This trip to the tournament is the school's 42nd, the most in the state.
The chance to play at historic Rupp Arena is not lost on these young Red Devils.
"I've been dreaming about this since I first picked up a basketball," says junior guard Darion Morrow. "I can't wait to step out on that floor and play."
But don't expect the stage to be too big, going up against the number one team in Trinity (Louisville). Owensboro has already played the number one team in the state this year, on the road at Hopkinsville, and played well losing by only seven points.
So once those inevitable butterflies fade, expect the Devils to be a thorn in the side of Kentucky's current number one.
