Last year was a historic year for the Port in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. The port shipped more cargo during the fourth quarter than any other quarter in its 37 year history.
More than 500,000 tons of cargo were shipped for three straight months. The port says its never handled that much cargo in two months, let alone three.
An increase in coal, fertilizer, and a record grain harvest were the primary reasons for the surge in shipments.
