You see American flags everywhere, but in Madisonville you got to see one from the Civil War era today. The Hopkins County Historical Society displayed 150-year-old American flag at Parkway Plaza Mall.
A retired school teacher donated the flag, which originally flew in New York. Historians say it likely flew outside a home or business in Brooklyn at the time.
"Folks are amazed at the condition of the flag," said Bob Adkins of Hopkins Co. Historical Society. "They just think, 'I don't see how that's in that good of shape of being as old as it is, and the type of material.'"
Adkins says the flag may go on display again later this year.
