Boonville High School's Number One Fan Passes Away

Pat Bruner was a photographer, a Boonville sports fanatic, and known to be one the biggest characters you will ever meet.

If a picture is worth a thousand words Pat Bruner could have filled the dictionary. Many considered him the unofficial photographer at Boonville High School. On the surface Pat was a ticket taker at high school sporting events, but those who knew him say there was much more to his life

"One of the things he always did was take pictures," said Boonville High School teacher Keith McKinney. At the end of a students high school career he would pass along all the pictures took of them. "All three of my kids came through school and I've got pictures from Pat from all three of them," said Boonville High School teacher Mike Wilson. "He would do interviews and he would take pictures all through high school and I guess you got something at the end. I don't know I won't find out myself," said Boonville High School student Sam McDowell.

"It really felt like we were his kids," said Boonville High School student Luke Parker. "He was the student's parent and grandparent," said Boonville High School Assistant Athletic Director Mary Cox. "He always made you feel special. He made me feel special. He was the only guy who would call me Samantha," said McDowell.

He was a big guy with a big personality. "He was definitely a character," said Cox. "I don't think there's a person in Boonville that hasn't said hi to him, or him say hi to them on the way in and out of a contest," said McKinney. He was a steady character around Boonville High School. "If you know Boonville athletics you know who Pat Bruner was," said McDowell. And his presence crosses generations. "As a kid as I would come over to the sectional basketball games with my dad he used to sit me down here with Pat," said Boonville High School Athletic Director Kevin Davis.

Pictures of students athletes line the walls at the Boonville basketball stadium. And while Pat has very few pictures of his own to remember him by, there aren't many people in the pictures that don't remember him.
