Posey County Sheriff Greg Oeth warned Saturday that a recent string of burglaries can serve as a cautionary tale for avid social media users.
Tricia Schneider was arrested Friday after using a credit card belonging to man whose home had been burglarized earlier in the week. While in custody, Oeth said Schneider admitted involvement in at least two other burglaries in the Tri-State. Oath said she found out the homes were vacant from posts on social media. Those targeted by the crimes posted pictures and information online about being out of town.
"There are some people out there who can take information you're posting and passing it on to commit a crime," Oeth said. "And then all at once you turn into a victim while you're on vacation."
Oeth said they found a storage area that Schneider had in Warrick County. He said they believe the string of burglaries may be more broad than they originally thought.
