Director Rodney Buchanan says the technology at Central Dispatch will meet the end of it's life span in four or five years. The consultant, he says, will help determine what needs to be upgraded and when.
Buchanan says right now there are some dead zones in northern Vanderburgh County, leaving law enforcement unable to communicate with dispatchers.
"It's not one of those that you'd say 'it'd be nice if it would happen,'" said Buchanan. "It's one of those things where we have to do it when you're talking about public service to the community. It's something we have to do."
Buchanan says the upgrade project, which could include a new tower in the northern part of the county, could be done in phases. He plans to ask both councils for approval at their next meetings.
