A piece of Evansville history is being moved out of the Coliseum this week. Volunteers are removing a pipe organ that dates back to 1919. The organ is massive with 5,000 pipes in all.

Workers from the University of Evansville and the American Guild of Organists expect it'll take them a week to remove each piece. They tell us this project has been a long time in the making.

"One of the major challenges has always been what would it be used for," said UE organist Douglas Reed. "And so as we have been planning for renovations of New Chapel on the University of Evansville campus and expansion of that space, we realized that it would be perfect use for a repurposed tinker organs."

Officials expect it to cost more than $1 million to renovate the organ.
