A commerical development could be coming to a strip of land on Evansville's southeast side.
Second Ward City Councilwoman Missy Mosby says she's been working with a Tri-state developer who wants to build retail space near Covert and McConnell just west of Vann Avenue.
The developer's plans go before the City Council on Monday.
Going in the place of an abandoned house and vacant land could be a Rent One store and a couple of restaurants. However, as part of an agreement, the development would not be home to a bar or strip club.
"This will help revitalize this area," Councilwoman Mosby said. "It will be a good economic impact as well because we'll have more property taxes we'll be able to collect. They're not asking for any incentives or anything like that. We'll be able to put it on the tax roll as development and not just land."
Mosby also spoke very favorably of the developer. She says he has repeatedly stated he merely wants to help improve the area. Mosby also says the developer has assured her that nothing larger than a box-truck will make deliveries at the potential future businesses. The development, Mosby says, will also create several jobs.
The Southeast Side Neighborhood Association is also in full support of the project.
