The Evansville City Council is expected to take a stand, Monday, against a constitutional amendment that would ban same sex marriage in Indiana.

Councilwoman Stephanie Brinkerhoff Riley sent a statement to Eyewitness News saying the council filed the resolution as a whole last week.

She says the filing reflects the council's obligation to promote economic development in the city.

The resolution will urge the Indiana General Assembly to reject a proposal to constitutionally define marriage as only between a man and a woman.

The City Council meets at 5:30p.m.
