Bicyclist Dies in Traffic Accident

A Madisonville bicyclist was killed overnight after he was hit by a vehicle just east of the Pennyrile Parkway.
A Madisonville bicyclist was killed overnight after he was hit by a vehicle just east of the Pennyrile Parkway.
Kentucky State police say 54 year-old Jerry Simmons was riding his bike eastbound on Island Ford Roadway when he crossed into the westbound lane and was hit.
Police say Simmons was thrown from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Deputy Coroner Wayne Burton.
According to police, Simmons was not wearing a helmet.
Police say the driver of the car was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
