BridgeLink Plan Reduces Cost of I-69 Bridge

Evansville and Henderson city leaders say they’ve come up with a plan for a less expensive bridge to connect Interstate 69.

Evansville and Henderson city leaders say they’ve come up with a plan for a less expensive bridge to connect Interstate 69.

The original estimate for the bridge was 1.4 billion dollars, but the group Bridgelink said they now have a plan for 800 million dollars.

The group, composed of Evansville and Henderson city leaders and the chambers of commerce, said costs would be cut by having four lanes instead of six, reducing the width of shoulders and shortening the approach to the bridge.

Both Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and Henderson Mayor Steve Austin agree the bridge is a vital part of interstate commerce.

Next, the group hopes to receive funding for a three million dollar environmental study. The study takes about 18 months to complete.
