Camp Director Killed by Falling Tree Limb

A falling tree limb kills a camp director in Washington, Indiana. It happened today at 10:44 a.m. at Camp Illiana.

The Daviess County Sheriff's Office say 60-year-old David Bean of Washington was helping a staff member removed a tall, dead tree at the base of a hill near the water slide. They were trying to pull it down after cutting at the base of the tree.

Deputies say the staff was using a Kubota tractor with a rope to pull the tree down, but the rope broke causing the tree to swing. Deputies say a large limb tell from the top and hit Bean on the head.

The Daviess County coroner declared Bean dead at the scene. He was the director of Camp Illiana, which is a Christian youth camp located four miles south of Washington.
