A small airplane from Carmi, Illinois crashed in a McDonald's parking lot in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana around 10:30 a.m.

The pilot, 41-year-old Michael Ray Martin, was flying a Beechcraft Bonanza for WFO Flying Service of Carmi. Martin is a native of Calhoun, Louisiana, but we're told he has been living in Carmi. The aircraft is co-owned by Mike Brown of Brown's Fertilizer and Chemical of Carmi.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office reports Martin was the only person on the plane at the time of the crash. Deputies say Martin told them "the engine quit on him while in the air." He was airlifted to a hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana to be treated for his injuries.

Mike Brown says the plane never originated from Carmi and has been at the Monroe Regional Airport since November 2013. Brown says Martin was taking part in a test flight after repairs were made on the plane after some mechanical issues.
