Evansville city officials are letting nature run it's course at the former site of a hazardous building.
Evansville city officials are letting nature run it's course at the former site of a hazardous building.

Crews demolished the former Swanson Nunn building on SE 8th St. two months ago. The building, which housed a dry cleaning business, seeped hazardous chemicals into the ground.

Now that it is gone, city officials say they're waiting for the grass to grow high enough to eliminate any erosion concerns. Once that's done, the city will work with the state to formulate a sub-surface clean up plan.

Once a plan has been approved, crews will begin cleaning the contaminated soil, a process officials expect to take up to three years.
