Evansville Police Sgt. Karen Vaughn-Kajmowicz and her partner, Tammy, are two of the plaintiffs challenging the state's ban and will head up to Chicago this weekend.
Friends, family, and fellow law enforcement officers gathered at the couples' home in Boonville tonight to wish them good luck.
The two were married in Iowa in October 2013 and will present their oral arguments to a three judge panel on Tuesday.
"I think if history is going to prove to be the judge of it," said Sgt. Vaughn-Kajmowicz, "I mean we will see another victory here. But honestly if we don't win, it just gives the Supreme Court more incentive to hear our case and hear it quicker. So, I don't think we can lose."
Governor Mike Pence and Attorney General Greg Zoeller appealed Federal Judge Richard Young's ruling that the state's gay marriage ban was unconstitutional.
