A Jasper man was hurt this morning in a crash that sent him to jail.

Authorities say just after 8 a.m., 43 year-old Frank Phillips was traveling westbound on SR-56, about two miles east of Haysville and crossed the center line.

Investigators say Phillips was distracted because something was falling out of his pickup truck. 66 year-old John Fuller was driving a tractor-trailer eastbound through Sendelweck Curve and noticed Phillips was driving on the wrong side of the road.

Investigators believe Fuller tried to cross the center line to avoid Phillips, but Phillips struck Fuller's passenger side.

Fuller was not injured in the crash, but Phillips suffered minor injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

While at the hospital, investigators learned Phillips was under the influence of THC and opiates. He was arrested and sent to the Dubois County Security Center. He is facing a number of charges incluing Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, Driving While Suspended, and Driving Left of Center.

State Road 56 was closed over two hours for investigation and cleanup.
