Indiana University has notified the Indiana Attorney General's Office the personal information of thousands of students may have recently been exposed .

The names, addresses, and Social Security numbers for about 140,000 students and recent graduates apparently have not been held in a secure location.

The university has since secured all that information and says the data was not downloaded by any kind of hacker or person trying to get the sensitive info.

As a precaution IU officials will start notifying all affected students this week.
