Early Morning House Fire Spreads to Home Next Door

An early morning fire on Evansville's south side may have started on the home's first floor, but it quickly jumped to the attic of the home next door.
The Evansville Fire Department is investigating an overnight fire on the city's south side.

Eyewitness News was on the scene around 1:00 this morning as crews were called to the 400 block of Linwood Avenue.

Fire investigators tell us heavy smoke and flames were coming from a vacant home when they arrived.

The fire spread to a house next door where four people were inside.
Fortunately, we're told they were able to get out safely.

Neighbors say they saw people inside the vacant home earlier in the evening.
That house sustained extensive damage.
We're told the damage to the neighboring home was confined to the attic.
