Evansville Announces Location for Proposed Medical School

The downtown location would encompass a 6-clock area with borders of Locust, 6th, 4th and Cherry Streets.
Evansville, IND.- Right in the heart of downtown... The City of Evansville shows off where it wants to build a proposed IU Medical School expansion.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke announced the downtown location would encompass a 6-block area with borders of Locust, 6th, 4th and Cherry Streets. This location would put the school right across the street from the Ford Center and the future convention hotel.

Mayor Winnecke said the city has the option buy to all the property in the proposed area in the event the city's plan is approved. Townsqaure Media, Deaconess Clinc and D-Patrick Ford are in this zone.

Winnecke said this announcement doesn't show everything the city has planned in the proposal.

Today (Jan. 31) was the deadline to turn in proposals to Indiana University. Officials with the school tell us they will take most of February to look over those proposals. They hope to submit the finalist to the board of trustees in mid-April.
