Evansville Mayor Honored on First Official Maritime Day

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke was honored by the Propeller Club of Evansville on the first, official Maritime Day.
Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke receives a special honor for his efforts to keep the LST docked on the city's riverfront.

Saturday, the Propeller Club of Evansville named him Maritime Person of the Year.

The mayor was there to celebrate Maritime Day when he was given the surpise award.

In honor of the first official Maritime Day, folks could tour the LST for free from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

Mayor Winnecke has been trying to keep the LST-325 docked in Evansville since the current contract is set to expire next May.

Maritime Day recognizes the men who sailed LST's - and honors the men and women who made the ships in Evansville's LST shipyard.
