The filing deadline to fill the Vanderburgh County Sheriff vacancy has come and gone, and there is one clear replacement.

Chief Deputy Dave Wedding is the only person to file.
The Democratic party says it will still hold a caucus on May 17 to make the appointment official.

Wedding is also running for sheriff in the November election.
He faces Republican Lieutenant Kirk Byram.

Current Sheriff Eric Williams will leave the job May 23 for a security job with Old National Bank.
