Fire Leaves Vanderburgh Co. Family Homeless

The fire broke out around 11 a.m. on Whetstone Rd. just a few blocks away from the McCutchanville fire House on Old Petersburg Rd.
A fire leaves a Vanderburgh County family homeless tonight. The fire broke out around 11 a.m. on Whetstone Rd. just a few blocks away from the McCutchanville fire House on Old Petersburg Rd.

Officials say the fire appeared to have started in the front, left bedroom of the house and quickly spread. But firefighters from four different departments were able to get things under control in a short amount of time.

The family was able to make it out okay.

"The outside right now is in tact structurally wise," said Lt. Brian Dispenza. "There was no collapse hazard or anything like that. On the outside, there is an extensive amount of fire damage."

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire but say it was initially called in as an electrical fire.
