Former Mayor's Killer Dies in Prison

Julie Van Orden passed away just after 1 p.m. at the Indiana Women’s Prison.

Wayne County EMS responded and pronounced Van Orden dead.

According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, her death appears to be from natural causes. An autopsy has not been scheduled.

She was in the facility’s health care unit at her time of death. Van Orden was serving a 50-year sentence for Attempted Murder in Cass County after stabbing an attendant at Logansport State Hospital in 2006.

Her estimated released date was November 15, 2033. She was previously convicted for the murder of Evansville Mayor Russell Lloyd Sr. in 1980. On January 15, 1982 she was sentenced to 40 years for Murder and was admitted to Indiana Women's Prison.
