Gibson Co. School Resource Officers Receive Training

Sheriff George Ballard and Officer Jennifer Payne completed training and are have received their school resource officer certification.
Sheriff George Ballard says his school resource officers are dealing with more than just patrolling hallways and counting tardies; they're facing bullying, crime and other serious issues.

Because of the wide variety of situations that officers deal with in the schools,  Sheriff Ballard decided to send willing officers to specialized training for School Resource Officers.    

This week, Sheriff Ballard and Special Deputy Jennifer Payne went to the National Association of School Resource Officers Convention in Sullivan, IN.   

Officers go through 40 hours of training about protecting students and staff during school.

Gibson County Sheriff's Office has more than 20 certified School Resource Officers.
