Henderson Brush Burning Requirements

Permit Required to burn brush in Henderson County City Limits

Yesterday's taste of spring gives us quite the reminder of all the work needed to be done around the yard. Sometimes the easiest way to get rid of limbs that may have fallen over the winter is to burn them, but that can be very dangerous on a windy day. Before igniting that fire, there are a few pieces of information you need to know to make sure you aren't breaking the law.

According to the Henderson City Fire Department, if you live within city limits, you must have a burn permit. But, that's not the only requirement. When you burn, you have to be 150 foot from any woodlands. On windy days, if woodland areas catch fire, it can be even harder to put them out. Also, since winds aren't typically as strong at night,  burning is only allowed between 6 PM and 6 AM. Lastly is to think safety by keeping the away from your house.

In order to get a burn permit, call the fire department to set up an appointment for them to come out to your home to make sure it will be safe for you to burn. The good news is that permits are free. Before burning, call to check on the latest burning rules for your area as they can change throughout the year.
