The Henderson Police Department narrows down a list of applicants for police chief.
The Henderson Police Department narrows down a list of applicants for police chief.

The city's police chief committee tells Eyewitness News six officers are selected to be interviewed. This comes about a month and a half after former Chief John Reed resigned.

The committee says they want to keep the position local with all six candidates coming from HPD.

"What we decided to do," said Mayor Steve Austin, "is we decided to go local with it. If we had as many as four candidates that looked appropriate, then we would at that opportunity first. And if that doesn't work out, we'll move out into a larger selection area."

After all the candidates are interviewed, the committee will meet to decide on their next step. Mayor Austin says that will take at least a month.
