A fire broke out on Whetstone Dr. yesterday. Officials say the fire made the house unlivable but not totaled.

A McCutchanville fire station is just a few blocks away from the home. When they arrived on scene, they say they noticed the house looked familiar.

It belonged to a fellow firefighter, a situation they usually don't encounter.

"Probably a couple minutes into it," said Lt. Brian Dispenza, "we realized it was one of our own guys whose house caught on fire. He was still there willing to help out with whatever needed to be take care of which was really great considering the circumstance he had to deal with."

The department is collecting children and adult size clothing, furniture, and food for the family. Officials say it's best to drop off donations at their station on Old Petersburg Rd.
